The same day of my Pyrex haul, I also had another winning pick. Can you already guess the brand by seeing this photo?
I was skimming the coat racks and spotted a pattern that I have seen in the pages of Vogue. I stopped and dug for the tag and yep, it was Burberrys of London! I pulled out the coat and found it to be a full-length classic trench coat in good condition. It was missing two buttons, but better brands usually have extras sewn into the lining and they were. The hubby was with me on this thrifting trip and asked, "Is this the brand that I see on commercials where the models always look pissed off?" Ha!! I love him, and I told him he was correct. I was glad he was along. I had to leave the cart a few times and told him that he was to guard it with his life. I mean, there were *both* Pyrex fridgies and Burberry in the cart!
The price I paid for this coat is beyond amazing. The missing buttons have been replaced and the designer trench coat is now listed in my ebay store. After some research it looks like they went from the 'Burberrys' of London just to plain old Burberry about 10 years ago. This trench is an old school classic piece!

ReplyDeleteI found a BEBE white and black leopard print mini (totally not my size) brand new, unused with the original price tag for $99.00 still on it. I paid $3.00. Like you, it's going to get posted in my Ebay store. Gotta. Love. Thrifting.
Ohh that and I found a vintage William Cahill wedding gown at Good Will for $30.00. I find they retail on line for $100 upwards as they're very collectible.

DeleteFantastic find! Our best Salvation Army find wasn't clothing. It was a signed Lou Hodges dining table for $150 (with 4 cane-backed chairs that didn't really go with it). We paired the 4 chairs with another table and sold that set for $450. The LH table is going to be listed on 1stdibs as soon as we do some minor restoration.

I love the "eagle eyes" comment :-) My husband is also a recent thrifting convert and found a purple label Ralph Lauren suit in mint condition for $10 (they retail for over $3500!) I found a cream cashmere Nordstrom cableknit poncho for $2, BCBG NWT ($168) for myself for $4, and some other goodies. It's so fun!

DeleteWow! What a find. Burberry is so iconic. My favourite recent designer thrifts have to be my Dior red blazer, and I JUST thrifted an amazing Betsey Johnson summer dress. Both were like 6.99 or something ridiculous.

ReplyDeleteNo designer finds at Goodwill to date for me. I usually comb the knick knacks and kitchen items for anything a little old lady might have gotten rid of like vintage cookie jars or kitchenware. Maybe I should aim higher and hit the clothes racks!!
ReplyDeleteyou should definitely hit the racks! i don't have the patience to flip thru each hanger so i skim the racks...you know what colors and fabrics you like so that will be easy for you to spot. trust me, the first time you find tag-on designer for like 3 bucks or less, you will be hooked!

DeleteDon't you love finding amazing treasures? I thought I would never find a Burberry trench, but I did! It just takes a lot of searching, but keep looking, you just never know.
ReplyDeleteyep, i find if i go to the thrifts with an open mind, i find so much more. i think if you are focused on looking for 1 specific thing you miss all of the other good stuff. nice find on the trench!
Delete... Found a Burberry flannel shirt today at Savers and tried it on... I passed on it because it wasn't really my style and I wouldn't wear it at $18 (apparently, they know it's better than everything else too). Perhaps I could've sold it for enough to justify bringing it home? At least I now know to look out for that brand too!

Oh, and my favorite finds have been: (1) a pair of my favorite sandals (Teva brand, circa 1996; found a couple of weeks ago) and (2) a bunch of bicycling clothing last week. All my size, of course!

ReplyDeleteemfox, if you are totally dying for this coat, it is in my ebay store with a buy it now, or make an offer (hint...make me an offer!) be sure to check the measurements to make sure it will fit. it is a long-length coat. glad you like it:)
ReplyDeletesame thing happened to me today, regarding the burberrys'. mine was a tan trench, all buttons intact. taking to the the tailor tomorrow for a slight alteration.
